Let's cut the cake!

I know I may have just gotten engaged, but when an opportunity to go cake tasting arises, we just couldn't pass it up!

My roommates Ashleigh and Ryan, are getting married in October and the tasks are piling up. Ashleigh wanted to do a tasting at Mim's Bakery here in Chico. My fiancé Matt (who is also Ashleigh's twin brother) showed interest in trying some cake, so we tagged along!

We were greeted by the owner Melissa, as she sat us down with photo books full of beautiful cakes! While looking at cake after cake, the idea of narrowing down a specific look can be a bit overwhelming. Hence Ashleigh in the picture below!

But as soon as the delicious looking flavors of cake are set down before you, its easy to get distracted! We were provided with eight decadent flavors to try, and we did not hesitate to dig in.

Flavors: Citron Framboise  - Mocha Amaretto Latte  - Double Mousse - White Chocolate
 - Chocolate Raspberry- Cheesecake - Carrot Cake - Lemon

Ryan asked about a Banana Nut flavor, and she was able to bring out a warm fresh piece!
As he would say, "It was a game changer".

I loved this Monogram detail on the Citron Framboise  (Citrus Raspberry) piece,
which was my personal favorite flavor!

Thank you Mim's for such a great tasting. Feel free to check out their website:

When going into an appointment with a potential vendor, it is always great to think about what is most important to you and your Fiancé!

Here are some important things to think about when going to your cake tasting:
  • How important is the cake to your wedding?
  • Are you more concerned about what the cake looks like or how it tastes? Both?
  • How much are you willing to spend on the cake?
  • Do you prefer the traditional full size cake or are you considering other dessert alternatives?
  • What are some budget friendly options in your area?
  • What all does the cake vendor provide when you book with them?
  • Are there any additional fees other than the cost of the cake?
  • What do you want the overall look to be?

Don't be afraid to keep asking questions until you have all your answers. Vendors will prefer it! They want to know what you want, just as much as you want to know what they will provide for you.

Most importantly: ENJOY IT! There are many tasks and things to do leading up to this one event. You don't want to go through the motions because you need to get them done. Before you know it, it will all have past.

So soak it up, and hey, who wouldn't want to enjoy eating some cake!

XO,
Brittney
